The forerunner of the guitar, the vihuela was the domestic instrument par excellence in 16th-century Spain. And, like Narváez, another of the great Spanish vihuelists of the time was Alonso de Mudarra, a canon of Seville Cathedral (and therefore a colleague of Guerrero’s there). This fantasia is a free composition and one of the most original pieces of the century.
