Lyrics

At the start of the day, early, Negra Atilia goes out
with her woven basket holding what she sells.
It is not yet five, there is still no blue sky
to herald the morning.
Off to the market of Porlamar the girl goes.

Chinese cotton flannel and nylon bloomers,
Spanish rubbing alcohol, playing cards and menthol,
the fine blouse, the soap and the cold cream.
By the time the sun has come up, Negra Atilia has sold it all.
