Lyrics
Allá en el cincuenta y siete
puso Dios omnipotente
un cometa ensangrentado
al amanecer poniente.
Con el color encendido
dos corazones se asustan,
y al mismo tiempo señalan
y en el África se ocultan.
Dime quién te ha protegido,
quién ha sido tu escudero,
que tanta suerte has tenido
en un país extranjero.
Le le le le lelando…
con el pasito de la humildad
entrañas mías te vas quedando
En una cierta reunión
se dio una comida un día
y allí se ha partido un melón,
única fruta que había.
Yo partí medía sandia,
se la brindé a una casada.
Me dijo desesperada:
“Muchas gracias caballero
que tengo luto y no puedo
comer fruta colorada”.
Back in fifty-seven
almighty God
set a blood-red comet
in the dawn sky to the west.
At its fiery colour
two hearts take fright,
and at the same moment they point
and hide away in Africa.
Tell me who has protected you,
who has been your squire,
that you have had such luck
in a foreign land.
Le le le le lelando…
with the humble little step
you are staying in my heart.
At a certain gathering
a meal was given one day,
and a melon was cut there,
the only fruit there was.
I cut half a watermelon
and offered it to a married woman.
She told me in despair:
“Thank you very much, sir,
but I am in mourning and cannot
eat red fruit.”
