“Tempestad grande, amigo”
Fandango
from the zarzuela “Vendado es amor, no es ciego”
Composer: José de Nebra (1702-1768)

Filmed during the recording of our CD “Muera Cupido”, this entertaining fandango is typical of the style of the great José de Nebra: it blends Spanish rhythms with the finest Baroque compositional technique, at a time when the Italian style had already been fully assimilated in Spain.

Lyrics

– A mighty storm, my friend, has risen in the woods.
– Mothers-in-law stir up many a storm!
– Oh, what a Brújula, Brújula, Brújula!
– Oh, what a páparo, páparo, páparo!
– For he is your Títiro, Títiro, Títiro.
– He is my zángano, zángano, zángano.
– And as they dance this little fandango tune,
they couldn’t care a fig for all this noise.
