Ouverture (Suite des airs à joüer de ‘Alcione’, 1706) – Angels and Devils

Composer: Marin Marais (1656-1728). Arrangement: Fahmi Alqhai

Alcione was one of Marin Marais’s great operatic successes. Fahmi Alqhai has arranged several of its pieces for Marais’s own instrument, the viola da gamba, into a suite that begins with the customary overture: a solemn opening followed by a fast, imitative fugue.
