Fandango – Rediscovering Spain
Composer: Santiago de Murcia (c. 1673-c. 1739)
The Spanish guitar began its rise to worldwide fame in the Baroque period. In one of the last treatises of that era (in fact already in the 18th century), Santiago de Murcia transcribes dances for the baroque guitar and masterfully illustrates fashionable rhythms such as the fandango, which would survive into the 21st century and into flamenco.
