Ay que me muero de zelos – La Sablonara
Mateo Romero “Capitán” (1575-1647)
A tono for three voices centred on love and jealousy. Its writing highlights the emotional intensity of the text. It alternates intimate moments with passages of greater expressive tension.
World premiere of the La Sablonara programme at the Utrecht Early Music Festival, based on the palace songbook of the Royal Chapel at the Madrid court, compiled for the Count of Neuburg during his stay in Madrid at the court of Philip IV around 1625.

LYRICS
¡Ay, que me muero de zelos
de aquel andaluz!
Háganme, si muriere,
la mortaja azul.
Copla
Sólo a darme guerra
passó, madre mía,
del Andaluzía,
mi morena tierra.
Fue de Ingalaterra
su fingida fe;
pero nunca fue fe
que es tan común.
Háganme, si muriere,
la mortaja azul.
Mi amor pagó en yelos
mi fe con mudanças
verdes esperanzas
en azules zelos.
Si buelvo a los cielos
a pedir favor
de su azul color
nace mi inquietud.
Háganme, si muriere,
la mortaja azul
