Patricia Guerrero

Artistic director of the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía, Patricia Guerrero (Granada, 1990) received the National Dance Award (Premio Nacional de Danza) in 2021 “for the personality and strength of her art, and for having succeeded in incorporating new forms and aesthetics from the most traditional flamenco”. Guerrero combines her deep flamenco roots with a creative originality that drives her to explore and experiment with blending those roots with other styles of music and dance.

Patricia Guerrero has performed at the most prestigious theatres and festivals around the world: New York City Center, the Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris, the Teatros del Canal and the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, the Piccolo Teatro in Milan, Bozar in Brussels, the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg, the Teatro de la Maestranza and the Teatro Central in Seville, and the Moscow House of Music are just a few examples. Throughout her unstoppable career, Guerrero has worked alongside great artists such as Arcángel, Mayte Martín, Belén Maya, Dani de Morón, Agustín Diassera, David Carmona, Antonio Canales, Rosa Torres Pardo and Fahmi Alqhai. The Ballet Nacional de España and its director Rubén Olmo regularly feature Guerrero as principal guest dancer.

Patricia Guerrero began taking dance classes at the age of three at her mother’s academy in the Albaicín in Granada. Her teachers included masters such as Mario Maya and Rubén Olmo, with influences from Spanish classical and contemporary dance. In 2010 she premiered her first solo work, Desde el Albayzín con Matisse, with which she toured Europe. She was also invited by Carlos Saura to appear as a soloist in the show Flamenco Hoy, which toured the world. Saura again cast Guerrero in his film Flamenco, Flamenco, alongside the choreographers Rafael Estévez and Valeriano Paños. In 2011 Patricia was chosen as principal dancer of the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía, and in 2012 she received the Giraldillo for Breakthrough Artist at the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla. Her most recent award came from her home city in February 2024: the Gold Medal of Merit from Granada City Council.

Her own company’s productions include Latidos del agua (2013) and Touché. In 2016 she premiered the show Catedral at the 19th Bienal de Sevilla; it won the Giraldillo for Best Show and two nominations at the 2017 Max Awards, including Best Female Dance Performer. In 2018 she took another leap in quality with Distopía, also premiered at the Bienal and this time nominated for three Max Awards. In 2019 she premiered Pies de Barro at the Noche Blanca del Flamenco in Córdoba. In 2020 came the premiere at the Bienal de Sevilla of Paraíso Perdido, a show with viola da gamba player Fahmi Alqhai in which Guerrero dances to Baroque repertoire; her performance of Bach’s Chaconne was memorable. Also in 2020 she premiered Proceso Eterno, a flamenco recital of the highest quality with Dani de Morón, Sergio el Colorao and Agustín Diassera. As principal guest dancer with the Ballet Nacional de España, she premiered La Bella Otero in July 2021 at the prestigious Teatro de la Zarzuela. Barely a year later, in June 2022, at the prestigious Festival Arte Flamenco in Mont-de-Marsan, she presented her show “Deliranza”, which again toured Europe, starting with the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla and the Granada International Festival of Music and Dance, where she is an essential guest.
