Ghalia Benali is a singer, composer, lyricist, dancer, visual artist and actress. Born in Brussels, she spent her childhood in Tunisia and later studied graphic design
in her home city. Fusing different musical styles, connecting diverse cultures, reviving the old and rooting the new are the natural outcome of the meeting of the two extremes between which her life has unfolded. Daughter of the Wind, Ambassador of Arab Culture and Granddaughter of Om Kolthoum are some of the names she has been given during her career. She performs all over the world, and her rich career already includes seven albums of her own plus many other collaborations, four films, a TV series, a musical and three painting exhibitions. The New York Times included her in its top ten most memorable concerts of 2013. In 2008 Benali received an award from the British Independent Organisation for best world music song, and in June 2016 the Best Actress Award from Spain’s Fundación Mujeres por África.
