Accademia del Piacere

The strong artistic personality of its director and a vitalist vision of music define what makes Accademia del Piacere unique: its artists conceive of music as something alive, full of emotions, which they make their own and convey to the listener, whether it was created today or centuries ago. In the words of David Yearsley in the American magazine CounterPunch, “the group’s name (Accademia del Piacere) said it all: never have I heard a more varied, challenging, moving and pleasurable concert”. In its recordings, Accademia del Piacere has revealed new nuances in core repertoires of historical music, such as the Italian Seicento in Le Lacrime di Eros, Spanish Renaissance music in Rediscovering Spain and Colombina, and Hispanic Baroque stage music in Muera Cupido, winner of the 2020 OPUS KLASSIK Award for Best Opera Album (Nuria Rial). Accademia has received many other accolades, including the Choc de Classica (France), the Prelude Award (Netherlands) and the GEMA Award for Best Spanish Baroque Ensemble (2016). Rooted in its original core of viola da gamba players and working regularly with leading soloists such as flamenco dancer Patricia Guerrero, guitarist Dani de Morón and percussionist Pedro Estevan, Accademia del Piacere stands at the forefront of early music in Europe. Its performances take it to remarkable venues across Europe, the Americas and Asia, including Oji Hall in Tokyo, the British Museum in London and the Berlin Philharmonie, as well as numerous venues in the USA, Germany, France, Japan, Belgium, the Netherlands,
Mexico, Colombia, Switzerland, Spain and Dubai… Its concerts are regularly broadcast live by the European Broadcasting Union and its member stations, and the ensemble has appeared in numerous television broadcasts, from TVE to Japan’s NHK.
