Dos estrellas le siguen – La Sablonara

Manuel Machado (1590-1646) – Fahmi Alqhai

A four-voice polyphonic tono of great expressive delicacy. It balances textual clarity with restrained harmonic richness. It represents the musical refinement of the Spanish court.

World premiere of the La Sablonara programme at the Utrecht Early Music Festival, based on the palace songbook of the Royal Chapel at the Madrid court, compiled for the Count of Neuburg during his stay at the court of Philip IV in Madrid around 1625.

LYRICS

Dos estrellas le siguen,

morena, y dan luz al sol.

Va de apuesta, señora,

morena, q’essos ojos son.

¿Quién no imbidia la suerte,

morena, de esclavo vuestro,

pues la bolvéia de esclavo,

morena, dueño del Cielo?

Dos estrellas le siguen,

morena, y dan luz al sol.

Va de apuesta, señora,

morena, q’essos ojos son.
